We Indiana's top experts in rodent control. We are not a typical South Bend rat removal or pest control company. We don't treat rats or mice like insects, because they are not - they are mammals! You can't just use poison to get rid of them, like you can with insects. Unlike most South Bend pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions. We don't just use poison every month. We solve your rodent problem forever, by following these steps:
- Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
- Seal shut all entry areas, no matter how small, with steel
- Set a dozen or more rat or mouse traps in the house and attic
- Remove all rodents as they are caught and monitor for activity
- Once there is no more activity and no more caught, we're done
- When necessary, we clean rodent droppings, replace insulation, and repair chewed electric wires
South Bend Rodent Removal Tip:
Do rodents chew pex or other water pipes?
Water pipes and pex are just two materials that come under fire when rats are hanging around. Virtually no materials are safe, which definitely serves up a rather large problem when you have a rat hole that you need to seal up to stop them from getting back in again.
If you take a peek on the internet for something along the lines of, "rats chewing water pipes," you will see stories of thousands and thousands of dollars worth of damage, all caused by rats. It takes a gap just 6 mm wide for a mouse to be able to slip right in, and a rat doesn't need a space much larger than that, only around 20 mm or so. If the hole is smaller than that, both rats and mice will just chew their way in. Rats chew because they need to. Their front teeth just keep growing, so if they don't chew to file them down, they would grow so large that they just wouldn't fit in their mouths.
The average home or property owner will be faced with a number of potential OTHER problems when there are rats chewing on pex or water pipes:
1 - The rats could chew through the water pipes. This will likely result in floods. A small drip will probably go unnoticed for a long time. This has the potential to do a lot of damage, weakening structures, including walls, beams, floors, and ceilings, and it can also cause the growth of mould. This slow drip could also turn into a large flood over time and with enough chewing, which will inevitably result in thousands of dollars worth of repair work.2 - When the rats are in the water pipes, and they will get in once they have chewed a big enough hole, they are able to get into places of your home that they otherwise wouldn't have reached. It is going to be a much harder job to remove these rats from pipes within your building. You will be unable to see them, just relying on two senses to find them — hearing and smell.
3 - The rats also have the potential to contaminate water sources once they are in the pipework, and rats are known to carry a wide range of diseases, none of which are pleasant. Again, it can sometimes take thousands of dollars to put this right, and that's before you look at the other factors — you may need to continually take time away from work for bouts of an "upset stomach", for example.
